Statement from Daria Morozova in connection with injures of civilians as result of shelling by AFU

Comments and statements of the Ombudsman News

On 4 May, three minor girls were delivered to the Republican Trauma Center with injuries of varying severity. A man, born in 1965, was also injured with them. All the victims came under fire by the armed formations of Ukraine, whose servicemen fired 30 times from the BMP-2 on the residential quarters of the settlement of Aleksandrovka.

Such actions on the part of the AFU are a gross violation of the UN Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, as well as a direct violation of the open-ended ceasefire agreement, which entered into force on 21 July 2019. The most cynical and terrifying thing about this incident is that the victims were young children. Let me remind that 2019 was the first year in which not a single child died as a result of the armed conflict.

I will properly inform international human rights organizations about this incident and call on the world community to give a proper legal assessment of Ukraine’s actions and use all available means to prevent further escalation of the conflict and return to a peaceful dialogue within the framework of the Minsk negotiation process. I hope that the use of prohibited methods of warfare by the armed formations of Ukraine will not go unnoticed by the world community.
