Statement from Daria Morozova following incident that led to injury of civilian woman in Gorlovka

Comments and statements of the Ombudsman News

Once again, we have witnessed the fact that the statements of the Ukrainian leadership are inconsistent with their actions. Last week, just as five years earlier, we heard highlight declarations by the President of Ukraine about the high priority of and readiness for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbass. However, today we witnessed a flagrant violation of the norms and principles of international humanitarian law.

The use of unmanned aerial vehicles for targeted attacks on residential areas is regarded as a prohibited method of warfare, which contradicts the basic principles of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

The Donetsk People’s Republic calls on the world community to give a proper legal assessment to the actions of Ukraine and use all available means to prevent further escalation of the conflict and return to peaceful dialogue in the framework of the Minsk negotiating process. To this end, I sent letters to international human rights organizations and the OSCE Coordinator in the Humanitarian Subgroup of the Contact Group on peaceful settlement in Donbass Tony Frisch. I hope that the use of prohibited methods of warfare by the armed forces of Ukraine will not be ignored by the world community.
