Donbass urges Zelensky to move from words to action

Comments and statements of the Ombudsman Media News

Donbass urges Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to show political will and move from words to deeds in the matter of prisoner exchange, DPR Ombudsman Daria Morozova told Izvestia.

In his inauguration speech, the newly elected President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky set the objective of cessation of hostilities as a priority. According to him, the first step should be to return the prisoners. This gives some hope for unblocking the work and resuming a constructive dialogue on this issue within the Humanitarian Subgroup,” she said.

As the Ombudsman clarified, Donetsk representatives expect their Ukrainian colleagues to come to the next meeting with an official position and be ready to discuss certain decisions. She stressed that Kiev must provide a complete list of detainees in order to conduct the exchange in the “all-for-all” format, as provided for in the Minsk Agreements.

At the moment, Kiev confirms holding 96 POWs, although Donetsk is requesting 252 POWs. The presence of 15 Ukrainian servicemen in the territory of the DPR has been confirmed.

The next meeting of the Contact Group and the Humanitarian Subgroup in Minsk is scheduled for June 5th.
