Staff of the Ministry of Defense and of the Ministry of State Security to provide security during the exchange of prisoners – Morozova

Comments and statements of the Ombudsman News

Staff of the Ministry of Defense and of the Ministry of State Security of the Donetsk People’s Republic will provide security during the exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Donbass, according to Daria Morozova, the DPR Ombudsman.

“The Ministry of Health will provide two ambulances. The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of State Security will provide security,” said Morozova. She stressed that Donetsk is entirely ready for the exchange.

Earlier today, the DPR Head Alexander Zakharchenko announced that he has granted pardon to captives in order to exchange them on December 27.

Shortly before, Zakharchenko visited the capital of the Russian Federation, where he had a peacekeeping meeting with Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, and announced that the exchange of prisoners between DPR, LPR and Ukraine would take place on December 27, under the formula “306 for 74”. Head of the Republic expressed hope that the Ukrainian side would keep to conditions of the exchange.

To be reminded, the exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and the Republics of Donbass was last held in Autumn 2016. Since then, it was impossible to agree on a new exchange: the Ukrainian side constantly protracted the process, creating new obstacles and excuses. The progress was observed in mid-November of this year. The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with the Head the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko. An initiative of the leader of movement “Ukrainian choice – the right of the people” Victor Medvedchuk regarding the exchange was discussed. Later, the DPR stated that it was entirely ready for the procedure, and informed that the exchange of prisoners would transpire before the end of this year.
