As part of consideration of complaints, a representative of DPR Ombudsman’s Office interviewed three applicants, who are in custody of Donetsk Remand Prison of the State Service of State Penitentiary Service of the DPR Ministry of Justice.
The remand prisoners raised issues related to appealing of actions of preliminary investigation officers, trial of criminal cases within a reasonable time and ineffective legal protection by lawyers. Also, representatives of the Ombudsman Office accepted a request for their presence in a court proceeding.
Representatives of Ombudsman Office gave advice on the above-mentioned issues and provided a detailed clarification of the norms of the current legislation. Some of the applications will be further considered by the Ombudsman in order to indicate violations of Human rights and freedoms.
The interviewees specified that they had no complaints related to detention conditions in the remand prison.
