DPR initiated creation of unified platform for search for missing people

Comments and statements of the Ombudsman News

Today, during the negotiations of the Humanitarian Subgroup of the Contact Group, the Donetsk People’s Republic took the initiative to resume work on the creation of a unified platform for the search for missing people in connection with the armed conflict in Donbas. The development and launch of such a mechanism are extremely important for all sides of the conflict. It will make it possible to intensify and comprehensively conduct activities aimed at the identification of the location of missing persons and unidentified bodies as well as to improve the interaction in cases of working with DNA samples.

The Republic has already put forward a proposal to create such a mechanism at the negotiating platform, and a year ago presented its version of the roadmap of the project.

“Then Ukraine accepted our proposals for review and undertook to prepare its own vision of the project. However, unfortunately, there was no response from the representatives of Kiev”, – noted the Ombudsman of the DPR, the representative of the Republic in the Humanitarian Subgroup Daria Morozova.

The Ombudsman stressed that the creation of a unified mechanism for the search for missing persons is a purely humane task, on which one cannot speculate and solution of which will not bring political dividends. “Therefore, I hope that Ukraine will not block this issue and will show negotiability”, – the representative of the Republic in the Humanitarian Subgroup summed up.
