On August 21, at the DAN press-centre the DPR Ombudsman Daria Morozova spoke on the results of work of the Office and answered some important questions.

“5731 persons addressed the Ombudsman’s Office since it has been established. As for the whole period of work of the Human rights institution in the DPR, it has received complaints from more than 15 thousand citizens”, – she said.

Committee for the Development of Civil Society and Protection of Human Rights was established in December 2014, and the Law on the establishment of the Human Rights Ombudsman’s Office was signed in December 2015, Morozova specified. “Most of the appeals deal with social issues, prisoners of war and displaced persons”, – she said.

“1311 persons are currently kept in Ukrainian penitentiary institutions and in so-called “basements” – said the Ombudsman. – Among them there are 555 servicemen, 559 – persons arrested for political reasons and 197 civilians irrelevant to the conflict”.

406 persons are considered missing, “they also might be kept in Ukrainian prisons”, – Morozova added.
