As part of his visit to the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Coordinator of the Humanitarian Subgroup, OSCE Representative Tony Frisch together with DPR Ombudsman Daria Morozova visited Donetsk Remand Prison, where prisoners are held pending the exchange. This was reported today, 10 September, by a correspondent of the official website of the DPR.

“The exchange of POWs is a key issue for us. There are some problems regarding this issue, so we gave an opportunity to Mr. Frisch to see the situation with his own eyes. Today we visited a remand prison, where POWs, who will be exchanged, are held. The OSCE representative had private conversations with them,” Ombudsman noted.

Mr. Frisch also shared his impression of what he had seen and heard during the conversations.

“I had an opportunity to talk to six people, held in remand prison. We had an open conversation with them. This was the first time that I had had an opportunity to talk to them face-to-face, and this is a huge step forward. I want to express gratitude to the DPR authorities responsible for the procedure, as well as to Daria Morozova for facilitating organization of the meeting. We will also visit POWs in other institutions, but I have no doubts that we will see adequate detention conditions and treatment there, as we did here. I am very pleased that I had an opportunity to talk to detainees confidentially, both here and in the LPR. As for the next exchange of prisoners, Daria Morozova and I will take every effort so that it would take place as soon as possible,” underlined Tony Frisch.

We remind that previously Tony Frisch and Daria Morozova had met relatives of persons detained in the territory of Ukraine, relatives of missing persons and people who returned to the territory of the Republic as a result of the exchange.
