On Friday, 19 November, the search group of the DPR Interdepartmental Commission for the Search for Missing Persons, Burial Places of the Bodies (remains) of the Deceased (dead) in Areas of the Armed Conflict in Donbass exhumed the bodies of unknown victims of Ukrainian aggression, buried in the cemetery of the village of Gornoye in Khartsyzsk. In total, the skeletal remains of nine people of violent deaths were raised. According to the Interdepartmental Commission, all of them are civilians who died in August 2014 as a result of shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the city of Ilovaisk.

“In those days Khartsyzsk was the closest city to Ilovaisk where a morgue worked and where you could drive on a safe road. Therefore, this is where the bodies of the dead were delivered in some cases. Those whose personalities were not identified were buried here, assigning numbers to the burials. Now we are exhuming the remains in order to identify them and hand them over to relatives for reburial,” said Daria Morozova, Human Rights Ombudsman in the DPR, Head of the Interdepartmental Commission.

The circumstances of the death of several people have already been established.

“It is reliably known that an ambulance came under fire from the AFU, in which they tried to evacuate a wounded civilian man from Ilovaisk. The car and everyone who was in it was burned down,” said Oksana Solyonaya, head of the section for work with family members of dead servicemen and missing persons of the Office for Social Support of Retired Servicemen and Patriotic Education under the Head of the DPR, head of the search group of the Interdepartmental Commission.

The recovered remains were sent to the Republican Bureau of Forensic Medicine of the Ministry of Health of the DPR for medical and forensic research. There were materials selected for molecular genetic examination.

On the facts of the shelling of the AFU, as a result of which these people died, the DPR General Prosecutor’s Office instituted criminal proceedings and began an investigation of it. The actions of the Ukrainian servicemen are qualified as a terrorist act.
