The overview of the current social and humanitarian situation in the territory of the Donetsk People`s Republic as a result of hostilities in the period 18 to 24 June 2022

News Overview of the social and humanitarian situation

Armed formations of Ukraine continue to fire on cities of the Republic. The Ukrainian servicemen apparently have chosen civilians as their targets. Using the latest weapons supplied by West, terrorists killed a young woman born in 2001 with a child, who isn’t even a year old yet. Also, a six-year old girl died.

It should be noted that these murders do not go unpunished. A few days ago the joint forces destroyed two dozen enemy’s artillery platoons in Donbass, which were carrying out artillery strikes on Gorlovka and Donetsk. It also became known that the Russian armed forces defeated more than half of the personnel of the 30th mechanized brigade of the AFU in the village of Klinovoe to the north from Svetlodarsk. More than 170 militant from the brigade were evacuated by the Ukrainian side with severe injuries.

However, the Republic feels not only military and humanitarian support from its allies, but also ideological. Thus, the Moscow authorities assigned the name “Donetsk People’s Republic Square” to the unnamed territory near the building of the American embassy in the Presnensky district. This is stated in the decree of the mayor of the Russian capital Sergei Sobyanin No. 1189-PP.

Thus, the US embassy in the Russian Federation, located in this area, received a new official address. Now it is located in the Presnensky municipal district of Moscow on the square of the Donetsk People’s Republic, 1, buildings 1-9.

It is important that the right of Donbass to freedom and self-determination is supported not only by Russia, but also by many citizens in all countries of the world. Hundreds of foreign volunteers stand shoulder to shoulder with our soldiers in defence of the Republic. In many ways, it was this that influenced the adoption by the DPR State Defence Committee of the decision to provide foreign citizens with the opportunity to enter military service under a contract in the internal troops (VV) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

At the same time, despite the hostilities, the DPR continues to live and develop. Thus, 40 boys and girls who graduated from Donetsk schools this year with honours went to the traditional ‘Scarlet Sails’ holiday in St. Petersburg. This event has been held annually since 2005 during the white nights. It is dedicated to alumni. The culmination of the event is the passage through the Neva waters of a ship with scarlet sails that is a symbol of love and hope.

Since the beginning of 2022, the Ombudsman received 13985 complaints.

  1. Death toll and injuries to civilians and soldiers as a result of hostilities in the territory of the Donetsk People`s Republic

The DPR Ombudsman’s Office documents cases of violations of Donbass citizens’ rights by the Ukrainian side, including the right to life, personal integrity and freedom of movement.

2. Register of displaced persons and affected citizens

At the time of armed conflict, the civilian population living in the zone of fighting and near the contact line is often affected. With the view to protect the human right to life and security of the person, and to provide assistance to victims as a result of armed aggression by Ukraine, there social facilities (dormitories, preventative clinics, health care centres).

In accordance with the Order of the Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic No. 137 of 24.04.2018, territorial commissions in cities and districts are now responsible for accommodating affected civilians. They work under the supervision of the Republican Commission on Resettlement of Affected Persons chaired by the DPR Human Rights Ombudsman.
