On 27 August 2020 the Human rights Ombudsman in DPR Daria Morozova received the complaint by a serviceman of DPR People’s Militsiya with the request to facilitate the provision and recovery of his mother’s rights and freedoms. At the moment, the woman lives on the territory of Ukraine and is subjected to pressure by the Secret Service of Ukraine. In particular, she is being threatened arrested and subjected to disenfranchisement and illegal terrorist charge if her son won’t cooperate with the Security Service of Ukraine. Thus, officers of SSU try to recruit the defender of the Republic, force him to go back to Ukraine and to provide information, which can be used against DPR and its citizens.
The complaint was considered and adopted. The Ombudsman directed the relevant letters to the International Committee of the Red Cross, to the Organization of cooperation and security of Europe, to the Organization of the United Nations with the request to recover violated rights and freedoms of serviceman’s mother, and also to ensure its further implementation.
“Unfortunately, this fact of pressuring on relatives of our citizens by the Ukrainian Secret Service is not the only one. I’m looking forward to rapid response and further close attention to this issue by international organizations and human rights community. It is necessary to make an effort to implement the protection of human rights and freedoms of people, who live during arm conflict. It doesn’t matter whose parents, children or wives they are. They are civilian population, first of all. And unreasonable charges, psychological pressure and threats against them are not only illegal but also amoral. I call the Ukrainian side to adhere to the legislation of Ukraine and norms of international humanitarian law in its actions”, Daria Morozova declared.
