Statement of Daria Morozova on the eve of Minsk meeting

Comments and statements of the Ombudsman News

Tomorrow, on 04.05.2018, a regular meeting of the humanitarian subgroup in Minsk format will take place. The issue of return of identity documents and medical records to people released earlier from Ukrainian captivity is still on the agenda. Also, we expect to receive an official response concerning the legal status of people, who returned to the DPR as a result of the exchange.

So far, the Ukrainian leadership has not provided any written response whether they continue to place people into categories or not. Clarifying the stance of the Ukrainian side concerning the “all confirmed for all confirmed” exchange formula remains a central issue.

The issue of missing persons is also on the agenda. We are going to demand that the Ukrainian side provides official responses.

I call on the Ukrainian side to show humanism and compassion not only to DPR supporters, who are held in Ukrainian prisons but also to their own servicemen. I have no doubts that we can reach an agreement to perform the second stage of the exchange under the formula “all confirmed for all confirmed”, only having discussed all positions through a constructive dialogue.
