Chief executives of DPR Ombudsman’s Office and Prosecutor’s Office representatives visit penal colony

On behalf of the Human Rights Ombudsman in the DPR, Daria Morozova, the Chief of Staff of the Ombudsman’s Office, Dmitry Popov, and representatives of the Donetsk Prosecutor’s Office, visited the Donetsk penal colony of the State Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the DPR in order to inspect the conditions of detention of convicts. During the inspection, Dmitry Popov had individual interviews with some of the prisoners. They needed advice on issues related to obtaining a DPR passport, marriage documents, applying for a pension and other issues.

Representatives of the bodies also visited the Multi-field Hospital at the Donetsk penal colony of the State Penitentiary Service of the DPR Ministry of Justice in order to check the conditions of detention medical care and nutrition for prisoners in the medical institution. As part of the inspection, the representative of DPR Ombudsman’s Office Dmitry Popov accepted five complaints on human rights violations.

As of July 29, 2016, more than 300 people are serving sentences in the Donetsk penal colony and about 50 people are hospitalized in a multidisciplinary hospital of the penitentiary institution.
