Representatives of Ombudsman Office participate in 43 court hearings during six months

Since the beginning of the year, representatives of the DPR Ombudsman Office attended 43 court hearings, including 21 civilian cases, 21 criminal cases and 1 arbitration case.

The presence of human rights defenders in court sessions promotes the realization of citizens’ rights to judicial protection and a fair trial. Employees of the Human Rights Ombudsman Office provide the necessary clarification of the current legislation, including procedural law.

Participation in court proceedings in the cases and manner established by law, as well as the presence at meetings of courts of all instances, subject to the consent of the person concerned, is provided for by article 11 of the Law “On the Human Rights Ombudsman in the Donetsk People’s Republic”. The institution of the Ombudsman does not in any way influence decision-making of the courts, which, in accordance with Article 5 of the Law “On the Judicial System of the Donetsk People’s Republic”, exercise judicial power independently, regardless of anyone’s wishes, being governed only by the Constitution and the legislation.
