In accordance with the schedule of inspections of children’s institutions of the Republic, representatives of the Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman in the DPR visited the Children’s Social Centre, located in the city of Gorlovka.
In the course of communication with the senior management of the Centre, human rights workers raised issues related to the quality of education, household, medical and sanitary assistance for children, as well as measures of a cultural and educational nature.
This Centre is an institution of social protection, in which children aged 3 to 18 stay for nine months (stationary) in difficult life circumstances and who are provided with comprehensive social, psychological, pedagogical, legal and other types of assistance. Assistance is actively provided in the formation of children’s own life position in order to overcome the habits of antisocial behaviour, as well as assistance in returning the child to the biological family.
The employees’ work was evaluated very positively. Moreover, since the last visit to this institution in the summer of 2020, significant work has been done to repair the premises. In particular, the first floor was fully glazed, most of the toilets were changed, new furniture appeared, transport was repaired, and a psychiatrist was invited to work with children. When examining the Centre, representatives of the Office were pleasantly surprised by the number of drawings and crafts, paintings, as well as boards with children’s certificates and awards.
At the same time, following the results of the visit, it was noted that the walls and tile in the dining room for preschool children should be repaired as a matter of priority.
Employees of the Ombudsman’s Office express gratitude to the management and staff of the Centre for the conscientious performance of their duties.
