Representatives of DPR Ombudsman Office visit Zugres Special Boarding School No.31

Representatives of the DPR Human Rights Ombudsman Office conducted an inspection of the educational process and living conditions in the state educational institution “Zugres Special Boarding School No.31” At the moment, the school is attended by 103 children with disabilities in need of rehabilitation regarding their physical or mental development.

The institution has four blocks. The sleeping block has a sleeping and medical sections, treatment and recreation sections, classrooms for pre-school and primary school education, a computer classroom, a curriculum office, a gym and an assembly hall, a library, a room with an interior of Slavic homes, bathrooms and other. The educational block has classrooms, a sports hall, rooms for social adaptation and labour training. In separate buildings, there is a canteen with a capacity of 140 pupils and workshops (joinery and metalwork). Outside there is a football field and a playground.

The institution educates children from 1st to 9th form, as well as children in a reception class. The educational process is adapted for children with special educational needs. The correctional work is conducted through rhythmic classes, social adaptation, speech therapy and other activities related to extracurricular correctional measures. Special attention is devoted to professional vocational education. The pupils develop skills in joinery, metalwork, sewing, plastering, farming and flower cultivation.

There are sports groups such as football, basketball and table tennis, as well as dancing and creative arts clubs. The pupils take active part in sports competitions and creative contests, including the Republic-wide ones. In a competition of the international children’s centre “Artek”, a dancing group of the boarding school was nominated in the “choreography” section.

As a result of the inspection, education and living environment for children in the Zugres Special Boarding School No.31 received a positive assessment from the staff of DPR Ombudsman Office.
