Representatives of DPR Ombudsman Office visit Republican Specialized Children’s home in Makeevka

On 29 November, representatives of the DPR Human Rights Ombudsman Office conducted an inspection of the educational process and living conditions in the Republican Specialized Children’s home in Makeevka. The institution educates orphans and children deprived of parental care, as well as children with disabilities, children born of HIV-infected mothers, children diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and hepatitis “C”. Currently, 74 children aged 1 month to 4 years live in the Children’s home.
The institution is in four-storey building that is properly heated. In the corridors there are air conditioning and quartz lamps. The territory of the institution includes playgrounds, a laundry, a dining unit and a carpentry unit.
Children live in separate sections for each group. Bedrooms are fully furnished for 6-8 children. There is enough bedding, towels and personal hygiene items Each group has a playroom with toys and soft furniture. A music hall has all necessary equipment and musical instruments to organise festive events. Favourable conditions promoting creative and emotional development of the child have been created in the institution.
Children have five meals a day, in accordance with established standards. Children younger that 1 year old have individual progamme of nutrition.
Doctors of the highest category, nurses, educators and a psychologist monitor the children’s physical welfare. Specialists conduct regular checks of physical and neuropsychiatric development, carry out preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and recreational activities aimed at preventing the occurrence and recurrence of childhood diseases. Depending on the specificity of disease, immunological, biochemical and other necessary examinations are regularly conducted. Counselling and medical assistance to children is provided by specialists from public medical institutions and teachers from the Department of Pediatric Infections at Donetsk Medical University.
Representatives of the DPR Ombudsman Office expressed gratitude to the Chief Doctor and staff of the facility for faithful implementation of their duties.
