Representatives of DPR Ombudsman Office visit Donetsk Child Welfare Centre in Gorlovka

On 12 March, Representatives of the DPR Human Rights Ombudsman Office conducted an inspection of the educational process and living conditions in Donetsk Child Welfare Centre in Gorlovka, where children in difficult life circumstances aged 3-18 constantly live.

At the moment, 49 children stay in the institution. The receive social, psychological, educational, medical, legal and other types of assistance.

There are bedrooms, bathrooms, an assembly hall, two classrooms, a playroom and a gym, as well as offices of psychologists, a social pedagogue and a curriculum office. Outside there is a football field, a playground and a laundry.

The children attend municipal educational institutions that have agreements with the Centre, including agreements on distance education. Also, the pupils attend sports and crafts clubs.

The staff of the institution take care of both physical and psychological health of children. The Centre specialists diagnose deviant behaviour of pupils, provide social-pedagogical correction based on individual needs of each child.  The Centre facilitates that children return to their families.

As a result of the inspection, staff of DPR Ombudsman Office revealed several unsatisfactory points and prepared recommendations addressing them. After their implementation, the staff of Ombudsman Office will visit the institution again.
