Representatives of DPR Ombudsman Office visit Donetsk boarding school No.22

On 13 November, representatives of the DPR Human Rights Ombudsman Office conducted an inspection of the educational process and living conditions in the Donetsk Special General Education Boarding School No.22.

Currently, 74 children with locomotor disorders and those with cerebral palsy attend the school. Very often students have mental retardation, child autism, Down syndrome, as well as various impairments of sight, hearing or speech capacity. 28 children live in the institution.

In the boarding school there are rooms with technical training equipment, a gym with sports equipment, as well as rooms where girls learn to sew and embroider, and boys learn the profession of a bookbinder.

The children get five meals a day. There is a canteen with a capacity of 76 pupils. A nutritionist controls the quality of food and finished products as well as compliance with recipes and cooking techniques.

Special attention is devoted to physical and mental health of the children. There is a medical unit in the boarding school, and a psychological relief room. Pupils have exercise therapy three times a week and undergo two courses of comprehensive treatment every year.

They take an active part in competitions and sports events, including those at the republican level. They won the third prize in a dancing competition in the Republican review competition of amateur performances for children with disabilities “Pover v sebya” (Believe in yourself).

Currently, a separate building is being renovated. It will be placed at the disposal of the boarding school.
Representatives of DPR Ombudsman Office will visit the institution again after the renovation is finished. They thanked the staff of the Donetsk Special General Education Boarding School No. 22 for faithful implementation of their duties.
