Representatives of DPR Ombudsman Office conduct inspection in Kirovskoe correctional colony

Staff of DPR Ombudsman Office carried out an inspection of the conditions of detention of persons serving sentences in Kirovskoe correctional colony. They also paid special attention to observance of convicts’ rights by the administration of the facility. At the time of the visit, 348 convicts have been serving their sentences in the facility. Its capacity is 1390 persons.

Staff of the Ombudsman Office met the executives of the Kirovskoe correctional colony and discussed prisoners’ living conditions and medical treatment, as well as cultural activities and disciplinary measures, education and employment of prisoners in conditions of the prison.

Employees of the Human Rights Ombudsman Office noted the improved living conditions for inmates, in particular, the refurbishment has been carried out in the premises of the colony.

The human rights defenders conducted a personal reception, which was attended by two inmates. They raised the following issues: the order of submission of correspondence to the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic; establishment of disability by the social security medical assessment commission.  In response to the issues raised the human rights defenders gave legal advice as an awareness-raising measure.

Also, staff of DPR Ombudsman Office conducted a survey, which has shown that there are no complaints regarding the actions of the administration of the facility, as well as inappropriate detention conditions or lack of necessary medical assistance.
