Representative of Human Rights Ombudsman visits Donetsk remand prison

As part of consideration of complaints, a representative of DPR Ombudsman’s Office interviewed three applicants, who are in custody of Donetsk Remand Prison of the State Service of State Penitentiary Service of the DPR Ministry of Justice.

The remand prisoners raised issues related to providing medical assistance; communicating with family members, who live outside the Donetsk People’s Republic through posting letters; appealing decisions of Ukrainian courts before the European Court of Human Rights. A staff of the Ombudsman Office, the main human rights institution, provided a detailed clarification of the norms of the current legislation as to address the issues raised.

The interviewees specified that they had no complaints related to detention conditions in the remand prison.
