Today, within the framework of the international scientific and practical conference “Effective practices of ombudsmen: national characteristics and universal approaches”, on the initiative of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Tatarstan and with the support of the Kazan Federal University, a round-table discussion was held on the topic: “Foreign students in Russia: legal status and support institutions.”
During the panel discussion, topical issues were raised that are related to the education of foreign students in Russia, their adaptation to the new socio-cultural environment, as well as the protection of their rights and interests, and strengthening the dialogue between nations. Particular attention during the discussion of the speeches was devoted to the topic of creating favourable conditions for the implementation of the rights of foreign students at both the federal and regional levels.
During the event, I visited Kazan Federal University. It is worth noting the positive experience of supporting foreign students in higher education institutions of the Republic of Tatarstan, which can be transferred to other universities of the Russian Federation, in particular, universities of the DPR.
