With the assistance from the DPR Human Rights Ombudsman Daria Morozova, OSCE Coordinator in the Humanitarian Subgroup at the Minsk negotiations Tony Frisch inspected the detention conditions of Ukrainian prisoners of war (detainees) who are in custody of the Donetsk remand prison of the State Penitentiary Service of the DPR Ministry of Justice, as reported by a correspondent of the official website of the Donetsk People’s Republic today, on April 5th.

“Visiting detainees on both sides of the line of contact is part of our job. We document the detention conditions, as well as the needs, requests or complaints of detainees. We are interested in ensuring decent detention conditions on both sides of the conflict,” Tony Frisch said.

Acting director of the Donetsk remand prison, Lieutenant Colonel of internal service Alexey Mazchenko told that Ukrainian prisoners of war are held in the same conditions as other inmates, as provided for by law. “The detainees have food, adequate living conditions, medical care, and they have daily walks,” he noted.
