Today, on June 1, on the International Children’s Day, the Human Rights Ombudsman Daria Morozova opened a monument devoted to Donbass children who live in the time of military conflict. “First, I would like to congratulate you on the International Children’s Day – a holiday that reminds us, adults, of the great responsibility that we bear for our future generation. Children are our treasure and our future. We live for them, we work and build our Republic for them! Our common duty is to surround our children with care, and love. After all, the values of the younger generation are cultivated by parents and school education, state support. Not only adults must remember their responsibility, they should do everything possible to protect children from evil, lies and indifference, to create all conditions for a safe and happy life for children.
We must teach children to be kind, helpful and humane, and above all respect our history. I hope the monument will be a reminder and a warning of how fragile our world is, and what tremendous price we have paid to gain independence of our Republic. I want to express my gratitude to all people who took an active part and made a feasible contribution to the realization of this project devoted to our children.
We must protect the most sacred – our younger generation – and remember that calm and happy life is the most valuable thing on earth! May the faces of our children always shine with a smile, and a peaceful, happy, bright future in our young state awaits for them!” – said the Ombudsman Daria Morozova. The monument is cast in bronze by the talented sculptor Denis Seleznyov. It shows the figure of a 10-year-old boy who covers his 7-year-old sister with his back. The memorial is set up in the Lenin Komsomol Park of Culture and Recreation. Within the framework of the event, the children of the Donetsk People’s Republic made a performance and a guest from Italy Marinella Mondaini made a speech. The prayer for peace concluded unveiling of a monument.
