Ombudsman meets UN representatives

On January 25, the Human Rights Ombudsman in the Donetsk People’s Republic Daria Morozova held a working meeting with representatives of the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.

The  Head of UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine Fiona Frazer introduced Dinu Mitcu, acting Head of UN Office in Donetsk. She also expressed hope for further collaboration of the Ombudsman and the UN Office to discuss relevant issues and work on individual cases.

Fiona Frazer welcomed the transfer of persons convicted before the conflict, which took place in December 2018. She noted that this initiative should be continued in the future. In turn, Daria Morozova reported that work in this direction is underway. She stressed that there is a need for the presence of the Ukrainian Ombudsman at the transfer of convicts.

At the end of the meeting, Daria Morozova handed a copy of the Ombudsman’s Annual Report 2018 to Fiona Frazer to inform about the human rights situation in the Donetsk People’s Republic and expressed gratitude for fruitful cooperation.
