New torture case files to be submitted to ECHR – Morozova

DPR authorities are going to submit new case files to the European Court of Human Rights on ill-treatment in Ukrainian prisons, based on statements of former prisoners. This was announced by DPR Human Rights Ombudsman Daria Morozova at the today’s press conference hosted by DAN Press-centre.

“People released from Ukrainian captivity are eyewitnesses of human rights violations in Ukraine. Their testimonies will constitute a basis for criminal case files that will be submitted to the European Court of Human Rights,” she said.

To date, no one from security agencies of Ukraine has been brought to justice for crimes against peaceful population of Donbass, Morozova highlighted.

Earlier today, during the press conference, the Chief of the Investigation Department of the DPR General Prosecutor Office Roman Belous reported on 34 criminal cases, initiated for acts of ill-treatment against captured DPR supporters in Ukrainian prisons. Through interviews with former prisoners direct involvement of staff of Security Service of Ukraine, Ministry of Interior and
State Border Service of Ukraine as well as of Ukrainian servicemen in torture and cruel treatment of detainees has been identified.
