LAW DEFINING DIRECTIONS OF ACTIVITY OF OMBUDSMAN IN DPR AS CONSTITUENT ENTITY OF RUSSIA WAS ADPOTED – DARIA MOROZOVA

Events Legislation News Ombudsman

Today, the People’s Council of the Donetsk People’s Republic adopted a new Law “On the Human Rights Ombudsman in the Donetsk People’s Republic”. The deputies unanimously supported the submitted draft legislative act that defines the principles, forms and methods of protecting human and civil rights, as well as the main areas of activity of the Ombudsman in the DPR as a constituent entity of the Russian Federation. This step marked the beginning of a new stage in the history of the human rights institution of the Republic.

I’d like to note that the adopted Law expands the scope of activities and provides for new functions of the Ombudsman. It is aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the human rights policy of our state. This is especially acute in the context of the special military operation, when the need of citizens of the DPR for legal protection increases significantly.

It should be emphasized that in 2022, I received 32,422 appeals from citizens. Compared to 2021, the number of appeals increased by nine times and continues to grow today.

I’d like to recall the words of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, “People count on respect for their rights and on justice. We have to guarantee it to them.”

I express my gratitude to the parliamentarians for their support of the Law and maximum assistance in the development of mechanisms to ensure the guarantees of state protection of human rights and freedoms.
