Kiev hands over 160 persons to DPR as part of the prisoner exchange of December 27 – Morozova

Comments and statements of the Ombudsman News

On December 27, 2017, one hundred sixty persons were handed over to the Donetsk People’s Republic as part of the largest exchange since the beginning of the armed conflict. Today, this was announced by Daria Morozova, the Human Rights Ombudsman in the DPR, in the DAN press-centre.

“On December 27 we made a real breakthrough in the negotiations by the end of 2017 – the long-awaited exchange of prisoners was performed. As it was agreed earlier, we expected 207 persons to be handed over, but the number of persons has been reduced, and we got 160 persons back,” said Morozova.

To be reminded, the exchange of prisoners between the Republics and Ukraine took place near “Mayorsk” checkpoint, not far from Gorlovka. This was the largest one for the whole period of conflict in Donbass. The procedure was divided in two stages: first, representatives of Lugansk and Kiev exchanged released persons, which took place at the checkpoint of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; second stage was performed in the territory of the DPR, where Ukraine released captured DPR supporters and vice versa.
