On December 6, 1988, the General Assembly decided to proclaim the International Week of Science and Peace to take place each year during the week in which 11 November falls.
Based on the success of celebration of Science Week in 1986, the organizers continued their efforts in successive years. In December 1988, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution that officially established the dates for the International Week of Science and Peace.
The annual observance of the International Week of Science and Peace is making an important contribution to the promotion of peace. The Week encourages greater academic exchanges on a subject of universal importance while also generating greater awareness of the relationship of science and peace among the general public. During these days, lectures, seminars and discussions are held at universities and academies. Scientists learn from their colleagues, establish cooperation, organise joint international projects.
According to UN experts, the annual observance of the International Week of Science and Peace is making an important contribution to the promotion of peace. Each year the number of participants is growing.
In turn, the Human Rights Ombudsman Office in the Donetsk People’s Republic will carry out activities aimed at legal education of DPR residents within the Week of Science and Peace.
