INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS MISSIONS ARE DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR CRITICAL SITUATION WITH RIGHTS OF PRISONERS IN UKRAINE – DARIA MOROZOVA

Briefings and press conferences Comments and statements of the Ombudsman Events Media News

Today, together with DPR defenders Dmitry Nosachenko and Boris Afanasiev, who were in Ukraine’s captivity, I took part in a briefing. Communication with the media was dedicated to a critical topic – Ukraine’s war crimes against prisoners. I am glad that foreign journalists have joined the briefing.

I emphasized that I have been dealing with the prisoner exchange since 2014. And I know firsthand about the horrors that take place in Kyiv dungeons. However, what we encountered before the beginning of the SMO can only be called flowers. The cruelty with which Ukrainian militants act today cannot be compared with anything. They not only torture and execute captured fighters, but also take pride in their crimes, posting relevant photos and videos on the Internet. I believe that the atrocities of the punishers were the result of impunity.

Since the beginning of the conflict, I have regularly officially notified the UN and the ICRC of all documented cases of ill-treatment of prisoners. I demand immediate steps to prevent further torture. However, no real response measures have been taken and are not being taken by international institutions in relation to Ukraine. At the same time, the UN confirms the facts of abuse of prisoners in Ukraine that have been repeatedly reflected in the reports of the OHCHR.

The silent position of the international community does not stand up to any criticism. I believe that international human rights missions are directly responsible for the critical situation with the rights of prisoners in Ukraine.

I sincerely thank all the representatives of the media who are not afraid and tell the world the truth about the war crimes of the Kyiv regime. It should be noted that they do not have a statute of limitations. Everyone involved in these crimes will be punished sooner or later.
