HISTORICAL NOTE: RETURNING HOME

News

A year ago, on September 30, one of the most important events in the modern history of Russia took place – the entry of the unconquered Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions into the Russian Federation. Let’s turn to history.

In 2014, after the coup in Ukraine and the adoption by the illegal nationalist government of a number of bills aimed at oppressing and infringing on the fundamental rights of the Russian-speaking population in the eastern and southern regions of the country, the industrial agglomeration of Ukraine refused to obey the impostors.

Mass protests began, as a result of which a people’s militia was formed. It was this that saved civilians from the reprisals of Bandera’s followers, who sent so-called “friendship trains” filled to capacity with thugs with a bandit arsenal to the “Moscow” regions. Realizing that it would not be possible to intimidate the rebels, the junta, disregarding the Constitution of its own seemingly civilized country, launched a war against its own population, covering up direct aggression with the fig leaf of an anti-terrorist operation – ATO. Remember this date – April 14, 2014. On this day, Ukraine decided to kill Donbass.

The consequence of this decision was that on May 11, 2014, the Donetsk People’s Republic was proclaimed, and on May 12, the Lugansk People’s Republic was proclaimed either.

The armed conflict continued for eight years. During this time, about 14 thousand civilians, including children, suffered from Ukrainian aggression. Subsequently, when Ukraine was defeated on most sectors of the front and suffered losses in equipment and manpower in several cauldrons, a ceasefire plan was agreed upon between Ukraine and the Republics through the mediation of the OSCE, France, Germany and Russia. Those are Minsk agreements. The most significant point in the document was Ukraine’s obligation to adopt a law on the status of Donbass. However, the law was not adopted, and the conclusion of a peace treaty did not take place.

But an economic blockade of Donbass was introduced, accompanied by regular artillery strikes on the civilian population. Ukraine and its Western allies were actively developing a scenario for the forceful return of the regions. Ukrainian negotiators in the Minsk Group were simply playing for time, giving their battered army the opportunity to recover and be well fortified along the entire front line.

The conformist pro-Western, aggressive, nationalist and deceitful policy of Ukraine led to the fact that on February 21, 2022, Russia recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, and also signed agreements with them on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance in order to prevent the genocide of the Russian population. Three days later, in response to a request from the leaders of the DPR and LPR, a special military operation (SMO) was announced in the territories of the Republics to protect the population of Donbass.

On September 20, 2022, the heads of the Republics, Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik, signed laws on holding referendums in the republics on September 23-27 on the accession of the regions to the Russian Federation.

On the same day, the heads of the military-civil administrations of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, Yevgeny Balitsky and Vladimir Saldo, also signed decrees on holding referendums.

The referendum question was: “Are you in favor of the Donetsk People’s Republic joining the Russian Federation as a subject of the Russian Federation?” . 99.23% of DPR residents who voted answered “yes”! Other regions showed equally significant results.

The plebiscites were monitored by more than 130 international observers from Italy, Germany, Latvia, Venezuela and other countries.

On September 30, 2022, the President of the Russian Federation signed four laws on the ratification of treaties on the accession of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to Russia.

On September 25, 2023, having completed the legal procedure, the Russian Federation Council approved the law establishing the Day of Reunification of New Regions with the Russian Federation on September 30.

Happy holiday, fellow countrymen! We’re home!
