Education and living environment for children in Donetsk Special Boarding School No.19 receive positive assessment

On 30 October, staff of the DPR Ombudsman Office inspected living conditions of students and educational process organized in the Donetsk Special General Education Boarding School No.19.

The school is attended by 83 children with visual and hearing impairments, including seven children from the territory temporary controlled by Ukrainian authorities.   Highly qualified specialists who have defectologic and surdopedagogic education work in the educational institution. The living and studying conditions have been created for students: There are rooms for recreation and leisure activities, table tennis, a gym with modern sports equipment. Also, there are technical workshops, a sewing workshop and a kitchen-laboratory designed to develop students’ household skills. Apart from the certificate of secondary education, graduates of the boarding school receive a certificate of qualification of chef and confectionery chef.

Special attention is devoted to physical and mental health of the children. There is a medical unit in the boarding school, and a psychological relief room where students can receive counselling support from a specialist. The children get five meals a day.  A nutritionist controls the dining unit and ensures compliance with the facility’s health and hygiene standards.

Students are actively involved in various contests and competitions, as confirmed by numerous diplomas, and certificates. One of the graduates of the school won the title of Miss World 2000 in the competition among the deaf and aurally impaired, which took place on the island of Majorca.

The territory of the boarding school is well-kept, planted with flowers, ornamental trees and shrubs. In the yard, there is a playground, since children from the age of 4 attend the boarding school.
