Education and living environment for children in Boarding School No.36 receive positive assessment from inspectors

Representatives of the DPR Human Rights Ombudsman Office carried out an inspection of the educational process and living conditions in the Makeevka Special General Education Boarding School No.36. Currently, 130 children (grades 1 to 9) with mental underdevelopment attend the school.

It has at its disposal four buildings that are properly heated and have all the necessary facilities. Also, there is a laundry. The children get five meals a day.

Pedagogues of the educational facility adapted the syllabus for children with mental underdevelopment. The number of students in each group meets the standards. There are special classrooms. After classes, these rooms are used by pupils for self-study and remedial activities. A speech therapist conducts individual and group training. Graduates of the school receive a certificate of the established model, which entitles them to enter secondary vocational schools. The main focus is on labour training, which is conducted in equipped classrooms and workshops. There are several types of training courses: sewing, plastering and joinery. Also, the boarding school established close cooperation with engineering lyceums in Donetsk, Gorlovka, Makeevka, and Yasinovataia.

The main task of the pedagogues is to ensure adaptation, integration and socialisation of the pupils.  There are special classes devoted to social and household adaptation: the way home, transportation, pharmacy, family budget, utilities, and other. In the cooking room, the pupils learn cooking, serving food and etiquette. It is a separate room with appropriate furniture and equipment. All pupils are under medical supervision. There are necessary equipment and medicines in physician and physiotherapy rooms. Also, pupils visit a sports hall and a gym. There is a special room for playing table tennis, snooker and chess.

There are sports and crafts clubs for children. The pupils actively participate in and win republican and city sports competitions in tennis, swimming and athletics, which is evidenced by multiple cups and honorary certificates. As part of creative education, there are classes on dancing, singing, sculpturing, knitting, origami, dramatic reading, patriotic civic education and on other subjects.

Education and living environment for children in the Makeevka Special General Education Boarding School No.36 was positively assessed by the inspectors. DPR Ombudsman Daria Morozova expressed gratitude to the administration and staff of the facility for faithful implementation of their duties.
