Today, 27 July, a meeting of Human Rights Ombudsman Daria Morozova and Head of Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross Tasha Rumley was held in closed session.

At the meeting, the results of the last meeting of the Humanitarian Subgroup were discussed. Daria Morozova told about main obstacles to implementation of the second stage of the prisoner exchange and about the destructive position of the Ukrainian side.

The Ombudsman mentioned that there are 19 convicted persons who expressed the wish to continue serving their prison sentence in the territory of Ukraine. The Republic is fully prepared to carry out the procedure, although the inactivity of the Ukrainian side prevents its implementation.

Also, the issue of missing persons was discussed at the meeting. The Ombudsman stressed that the resolution of this issue is crucial since many people live in ignorance of the whereabouts and fate of their loved ones. This is absolutely inhumane and brings suffering to them.

At the end of the meeting, DPR Ombudsman and ICRC representatives expressed mutual respect, desire to have further meetings on a regular basis and continue fruitful cooperation.
