DPR Ombudsman calls on Kiev to hold the prisoners’ exchange before December 25

Comments and statements of the Ombudsman News

The Human Rights Ombudsman in the Donetsk People’s Republic Daria Morozova called on the Ukrainian side to hold the exchange of prisoners before December 25. This was reported today in the interview with a Donetsk News Agency correspondent.

“We don’t mind holding the exchange before December 25. Indeed, we call on the Ukrainian side to perform the procedure earlier that the above-mentioned date,” said Morozova.

She noted that the number of persons and the exchange lists have already been approved at the highest level.

The exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Donbass republics was last held in Autumn 2016. Since then, it was impossible to agree on the next exchange: the Ukrainian side was permanently protracting the process, creating new problems and excuses. Some progress was observed in the mid-November of this year. The Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko. An initiative of the leader of movement “Ukrainian choice – the right of the people” Victor Medvedchuk regarding the exchange was discussed. Later, the DPR stated that it was entirely ready for the procedure, and informed that the exchange of prisoners would transpire before the end of this year.
