DPR hope for positive decisions to resolve issue of missing persons in Donbass

Comments and statements of the Ombudsman Media News

DPR Ombudsman Daria Morozova hopes that there will be positive decisions in regard to the issue of persons missing as a result of the conflict in Donbass.

Earlier, the DPR Ombudsman has repeatedly insisted on the need to start the process of searching for missing persons due to the conflict in Donbass and pointed out the challenges in solving this problem.

“We are looking for solutions both in the legislative framework and in practice. I believe that this mechanism would be launched after some more fruitful discussions (peace talks of the Humanitarian Subgroup in Minsk – Ed.),” Morozova told reporters.

In April 2014, the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the LPR and the DPR, which declared independence after the coup d’état in Ukraine in February 2014. According to the latest UN data, about 13 thousand people became victims of the conflict. The issue of resolving the situation in Donbass is being discussed, including during the meetings of the Contact Group in Minsk, which, since September 2014, has already adopted three documents regulating steps to de-escalate the conflict. However, even after armistice agreements between the parties to the conflict, exchange of fire continues.
