DPR claim negotiations in Humanitarian Subgroup in Minsk unblocked

Comments and statements of the Ombudsman Media News

Ombudsman of the Donetsk People’s Republic Daria Morozova says that the work in the Humanitarian Subgroup on peaceful settlement in Donbass has been unblocked. Earlier, she had repeatedly claimed that the position of Kiev used to completely block the negotiations on peaceful settlement in Donbass. The newly elected president of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky decided to change the composition of the Ukrainian delegation to negotiations on Donbass. The new composition of the Humanitarian Subgroup held its first meeting on 5 June.

“I suppose, the negotiations have been unblocked. Another representative has been appointed, which let us discuss all the issues. This was a huge breakthrough… Actually, after the plenipotentiary representative has been changed, the meeting was pleasant for me as a negotiator. It was the first time for many years that we sat at the table and had a constructive discussion,” she said.

Morozova noted that it will only be possible to draw any conclusions after the following meetings. Now the negotiators have agreed to continue the established strategy. According to her, the Ukrainian side promised that it would provide “all the lists and start negotiating on specific proposals and specific names and understand what “all confirmed” means” at the next meeting of the Contact Group on 19 June, as regards the exchange of POWs.

“We have done this work a long time ago… We heard many promises from the Ukrainian side, so I wouldn’t say ahead that it will certainly be successful. I want to see specific proposals and mechanisms,” she explained.
