On March 14, DPR Human Rights Ombudsman Daria Morozova visited the city of Volnovakha, which had been liberated from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During the working trip, the Ombudsman, together with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, assisted in the evacuation of the civilian population, who found themselves in critical condition due to devastating shelling from Ukraine.

In turn, the most important task of this trip was monitoring and fixing cases of violation of the rights of the local population by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Numerous interviews with residents of Volnovakha were held and recorded. Eyewitness testimonies speak of the systematic inhumane treatment of citizens by the Ukrainian servicemen, in particular these are firing on civilians, taking hostages, firing from residential areas of the city. In the future, all eyewitness testimony will be of help for future criminal cases.

Moreover, in the course of communication with the residents, it became known that the local authorities actually abandoned the city to its fate, depriving the population of information about bomb shelters and not providing any humanitarian assistance.

Also, the human rights defender of the Republic personally helped citizen A., born in 1941, to reunite with her daughter, who lives in Donetsk. The woman had been hiding in basements from Ukrainian shells for several weeks, completely losing touch with her family and friends.

The Ombudsman will continue to visit the liberated territories in order to monitor the situation with the rights of citizens and assist in improving the social and humanitarian situation on the ground.
