On January 24, the Human Rights Ombudsman in the Donetsk People’s Republic Daria Morozova held a meeting with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Head of Delegation to Ukraine of the International Committee of the Red Cross Alain Aeschlimann informed that this was his last visit in that capacity, but he would continue to work in Ukraine and Donbass as a representative of the donor countries for the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The participants of the meeting discussed issues related to the implementation of joint programs for social and humanitarian support of various categories of citizens in the Donetsk People’s Republic, as well as the results of work of the Humanitarian Subgroup of the Contact Group on peaceful settlement in Donbass.

In particular, Daria Morozova reiterated the commitment and willingness of the Donetsk People’s Republic to implement a mechanism to search for missing persons, in accordance with the roadmap proposed by the International Committee of the Red Cross. At the same time, she noted the destructive position of Ukrainian representatives at Minsk negotiations, who manipulated the negotiation process in the run-up to presidential elections in Ukraine, trying to achieve political goals. The Human Rights Ombudsman in the Donetsk People’s Republic asked the Head of Delegation to Ukraine of the International Committee of the Red Cross for assistance in resolving this issue, which would be an act of humanity to families of the missing and would reduce their suffering.

At the end of the meeting, Daria Morozova handed Alain Aeschlimann a copy of the Ombudsman’s Annual Report 2018 to inform about the situation in human rights and freedoms in the Donetsk People’s Republic and expressed gratitude for fruitful cooperation.
