Comment from Daria Morozova on arrest of DPR citizen by SSU, November 21, 2018

Comments and statements of the Ombudsman News

On 21 November, 2018 a resident of Novoazovsk region born in 1966 was detained at the checkpoint in Kurakhovo by staff of the Security Service of Ukraine. The woman was charged with offences under Part 1 Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (creation of a terrorist group or a terrorist organization).

We express our utmost concern over the above-mentioned actions of the power structures controlled by Kiev, and we view them as aimed at forming a so-called “exchange bank” and disrupting the peaceful dialogue in the format of the Minsk negotiating process. We consider blackmail and manipulations, the means which the Ukrainian side has increasingly been using lately, to be unacceptable. They lead to escalation of the conflict, deterioration of the situation in the sphere of human rights and freedoms in the territory of Donbass.

It should be noted that the woman’s personal information was publicly available on the website “Myrotvorets” in violation of the current legislation of Ukraine and without her consent. Representatives of the international community have repeatedly stated that the operation of this resource is inadmissible, but the Ukrainian side has ignored all the appeals.

Being aware of the methods used by the Security Service of Ukraine, we asked international organizations to visit the detained woman to check her health condition and to make an objective assessment of the situation.
