About 120 people, previously considered to be missing persons, have been found by the Donetsk People’s Republic in a year. This was announced by the DPR Ombudsman Daria Morozova.
“In the last year alone (2016 – DNA comment) we could find about 120 people. Of course, some of them were dead” – said the agency’s interviewee.
Morozova recalled that Donetsk continues the joint work with the International Committee of the Red Cross in the search of missing people, but it also conducts searches independently.
“Even we derive some experience from the ICRC. They direct us, they teach us. If, as they propose, we establish a single database of DNA laboratories, and the ICRC are ready to take it upon themselves, the number of missing people will reduce both on our side and in Ukraine” – the Ombudsman said.
According to her, the Ukrainian side, which “does not assume these obligations”, continues to complicate the process. “At the moment, the ICRC is our safety ring in the search for missing persons” – Morozova concluded.
We would like to add that according to the updated data of the DPR Ombudsman’s Office, there are 468 residents of the Republic considered missing.
