20th November – Universal Children’s Day

News

In 1954, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution which recommended all countries to celebrate the World Children’s Day. This date is celebrated to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare. The day is also significant due to the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Children are the most precious gift for all people in the world; they are the most vulnerable members of society. Unfortunately, the rights and best interests of children are often violated both in the poorest and in the richest countries of the world. According to the UN, every year about eleven million children die before they reach the age of five, tens of millions more are mentally or physically disabled, without the opportunity to grow up, enjoy full life and development.

Most child deaths are caused by easily preventable or treatable diseases, as well as the consequences of poverty, discrimination, ignorance and violence. These statistics are horrifying and remind us of the importance of showing care, protecting rights, and ensuring the welfare of children around the world.

On Children’s Day, charity events and activities are held by public and private organizations to help those in need. Our children are the future of our planet, so the duty of mankind is to protect and take care of every child on Earth.
