World Children’s Day (Universal Children’s Day) is a holiday that is dedicated to all children. Their parents, relatives and close people take part in the events. The holiday is about teachers, educators, human rights and charitable organizations of the corresponding specialization. It is celebrated by everyone who is associated with pedagogy according to the profile of their activities.
The purpose of the holiday is to draw to attract public attention to the legislative norms, ensuring the favourable development of the personality of under-aged members of society.
The history of this holiday dates back to 1954. It was established by the Resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) on 14 December 1954. The result of this was the adoption of this document that recommended that all countries of the world establish such a holiday since 1956. Later, the Organization decided to hold the event on 20 November. This date has a symbolic meaning. It is dedicated to the signature of the “Declaration of the Rights of the Child” in 1959.
The event is marked by numerous actions that directed attention to the protection of the rights of juveniles. Demonstrations and flashmobs are held. Charitable funds collect money, things, books for orphanages and low-income families. Non-governmental organizations organize educational events in various institutions, including schools. The audience is told about the basic rights of juveniles. Also, the mechanisms of counteraction and prevention of violations of legislation are described.
On the eve of World Children’s Day, seminars, conferences, lectures are organized. Certificates of merits, prizes, valuable gifts are awarded to human rights activists, public figures and teachers for outstanding achievements. Most families support the tradition of congratulating their children. The mass media publish stories about the events taking place. Programs on education are broadcast. The plots tell stories about the life of children in orphanages. Their adoptive parents become the heroes of the interview.
