1 October – International Day of Older Persons

On October 1, the world celebrates the International Day of Older Persons, established on the initiative of the United Nations General Assembly (hereinafter – the UN) on December 14, 1990. The General Assembly calls on governments and non-governmental organizations to focus on creating a society for all ages where economic and social security guarantees would be provided to everyone.

The main objective of this Day is to attract as much attention of humanity as possible to the numerous problems and challenges faced by older persons.

Traditionally, on the first day of October, various festivals, conferences and congresses are held around the world to draw attention to the rights of older people and their role in society. Many agencies organise charity events and leisure activities. The Donetsk People’s Republic does not stand aside, there are also celebrations dedicated to the International Day of Older Persons. Leaders the Donetsk People’s Republic express their gratitude to the older persons.

On this day, people usually call their grandparents, mothers and fathers, who need our attention and support so much. The Day of Older Persons was designed to remind everyone that it is our responsibility to take care of the older generation and ensure their full participation in society.
